Fun fact about me: Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday. I love it so much. I think Valentine’s Day is more than just buying chocolates, giving out roses, or taking your partner out for a fancy date night. It’s a day to show and express your love to all of those you love in life.
Growing up, Valentine’s Day was a big deal in my house. My mom would make heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast and my dad would give us girls each a red rose (He gave my mom a huge bouquet of roses!). My mom would also make us a treat bag of our favorite candies. I looked forward to Valentine’s Day every year, it was a day that made me feel so special.
Today, I will be sharing my top 5 date night ideas for a fun night at home with your sweetheart. They are quarantine-friendly and easy on the wallet.

1. Netflix & Chill
One of my favorite things to do with my husband is to snuggle up close on the couch watching a good chick flick. There’s nothing better in this world than snuggling your sweetheart under a comfy blanket watching a movie with snacks. Popcorn is always my go-to snack for movie night while my husband enjoys his own bowl of ice cream.
One of the ways we get movies for free is to borrow DVDs from our local library. If you don’t have access to the library any streaming service has a great selection of chick flicks. Last date night we rented “Confessions of a Shopaholic” on Amazon through our firestick and ate homemade caramel corn.
2. Board or Card Games
I love to play a card or board games. But only ones that don’t require any sort of strategy and a round will only take 20 minutes tops. A simple deck of cards like these will do the trick. My brother-in-law actually owns a business that sells Bicycle deck cards in all cool kinds of designs called Ecstatic Games. Be sure to check it out! My favorite is the Star Wars ones, because I think they are so cool.
3. Make a Fancy Meal Together
One of Steven and I’s favorite thing to do together is to cook. Before we had a baby we cooked dinner together every night. Now that we have a hungry toddler pulling on our pants while cooking it’s become a one-person job. So now as a date idea we make a meal together after our daughter goes to bed and make a meal we wouldn’t normally make together such as steak.
4. Valentine’s Day Crafts
My favorite hobby is crafting. I think it is relaxing and fun to do. Steven is a really talented artist and likes to draw and paint. So one of the dates we do is to make something together. You can make this date as cheap or as expensive as you want depending on the supplies you use and what you make.
5. Q & As
Even if you’ve been together for years, there can still be things that you don’t know about each other. A quick google search can bring up fun lists of questions to ask each other, both serious and funny. It’s fun to be able to reconnect by asking each other questions.
We have done all of these dates before and it’s been a great way for us to reconnect. Life can get so busy especially when you are a parent to littles. So it is important to set aside time with your spouse and spend time together one on one.
