Baby tutus are one of the things that I find so adorable. This DIY no-sew baby tutu was one of the most fun I have had with my daughter. I was so excited when we found out that our baby was going to be a girl so I can make a DIY no-sew baby tutu for dress-up and photo shoots. It ended up being very cute and very easy to do.

For Cora’s first birthday I did a DIY cake smash photo shoot and she wore a red tutu that I made. Next week I’ll share how I did the photoshoot and will update this post with the link. This was a great experience as a mother of a baby girl I will always have this memory and be able to show my daughter as she grows up.

You’ll need the following supplies for the DIY no-sew baby tutu:

  • Elastic Band for the waist of the tutu
  • Tulle (I used only 2.5 out of the 3 rolls I bought. They were 6 in x 25 yds. I bought these at JoAnne’s but you can find them at any craft store or on Amazon).
  • Piece of cardboard 8 inches long
  • Scissors

First I cut the piece of cardboard out from a diaper box that I am sure you have somewhere. You want it to be 8 inches in length but it doesn’t matter how wide it is. It is easier if you make it as wide as the roll of tulle you have. This will allow you to have a consistent DIY no-sew baby tutu that looks great all the way around.

After the cardboard is cut to size you are just going to roll the tulle around the cardboard. You can roll it around as many times as you want, but just make sure that you can cut through it. You will only cut on one end of the tulle. This will give you consistent cut lengths of tulle.

Once cut you will have a sack of tulle that is 16 inches long.

Repeat until you have cut out all of your tulles.

Then you will need to get the elastic band to the length of the waist for your baby plus 2-3 inches to spare. You will need those 2-3 inches so you can tie off the band without losing too much.

Then you are going to start tying the tulle around the band. I found it the easiest to put the band around my knee. Excuse the baby’s hands in the pictures. I had a little helper while doing this project 🙂 You will double knot the tulle.

You will continue tying the tulle around the band until you reach your desired fullness. I used 2 complete rolls of the red tulle and a 1/4 of the glitter red tulle that tied randomly to add a little glitter to the DIY no-sew baby tutu.

It turned out so cute. It was so easy and I will be doing this again once Cora gets older and wants to play dress up.
